School Announcements
Welcome Back 2010-2011
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to our 2010-2011 School Year! We hope you all had a restful and safe summer. Our office is now open as we get ready for the new year.
First day of School for 6th grade is on August 12th at 7:30 am. All others and 6th grade will report on Friday August 13th at 7:30 am. Please note this is a new start time for this year. School will end at the same time, 2:40.
Back to School Night this year is on Thursday August 26th from 5:00 to 7:00. We will have a BBQ open forum like last year with music and a time to join us for some family fun.
As you begin to purchase school clothes for your children this summer we ask that you remember our dress code policy. We do not allow sleeveless tanks, spaghetti strap or low cut revealing shirts. Clothes must not display inappropriate language or messages related to gang activity, violence, drugs or alcohol. Pants on boys must fit to the waist and oversized pant legs are not allowed. Shorts and skirts must not be excessively short. A good way to measure if the length is appropriate is to have your student place their arms on their sides in a relaxed state. The edge of the shorts must not be shorter than the finger tips.
Due to District wide budget cuts, we had to cut a couple of staff members. Those affected were, Mr. Kevin Schaffer in 6th grade and Mr. Adam Smeester in 8th grade. We also lost a paraprofessional in special education, Ms. Katie Smith. Jean Weatherwax who has served Vikan Middle School for 29 years retired this year. We wish all of them continued success in the new assignments.
