Dear Parents and Community,

 

The cold weather doesn’t seem to want to take a break quite yet! It seems we have had our share of really cold days these last few months. Our kids continue to work diligently and are focused on learning, regardless of the weather! We have completed our Winter MAPs /NWEA testing and our data indicates growth! This is very exciting news especially since for the last two years our winter data has been a true indicator of how our students will do on CSAP. I am extremely proud of our kids and our teachers. We continue our work in our Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development for teachers. Teachers are being asked to reflect on their instructional practices by working on the seven strategies of assessment for learning. This involves our work with formative assessment. We believe this reflection will provide a strong foundation for focused student learning in daily classroom instruction.

As we prepare for March and CSAP, I realize how very fortunate we are to have such wonderful students and such dedicated teachers at Vikan. I am confident our teachers will continue to make a difference this year and our students will show improvements on CSAP as I see their progress on a daily basis.

I want to once again thank you for your continued support this year.

We have quite a few activities going on this month.

· Parent Teacher conferences are on February 10^th  from 4:30 to 7:00 and February 11^th from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. Thursday is early release at 10:30 a.m. Conferences will be open forum as before.

· There is no school on Friday February 12^th.

· February 15^th is Presidents Day, also a holiday. No School for your child. .

February 22nd is our annual Hispanic Advisory Council Middle School (HAC) Awards Night. This night will be hosted at Brighton High School at 5:30. Several of our students will be recognized through an Essay contest and specific academic, citizenship and athletic awards. Although this is sponsored by the HAC, all or our students may be recognized regardless of Hispanic ethnicity. Please watch for your invitation if your child has been recognized.
